How to Start an Insurance Agent Blog in 4 Minutes

There are two specific groups of InsuranceSplash readers that would especially benefit from starting their own insurance blog:

  1. Captive Agents
  2. Ambitious Producers

Why captive agents should start a blog:

I usually recommend captive agents do not publish their own agency website because it competes for search rankings with the agency’s page on the carrier’s site.

However, an agent blog can serve as an “unofficial” online place that offers a platform for content and drives traffic to and improves the rankings of your “official” page on the carrier’s site.

And if you ever decide to part ways with your carrier, the blog (and all the traffic it generates) will go with you.

Why ambitious producers should start a blog:

If you see yourself staying in the industry, now is the time to develop an online platform that can follow you wherever you go.

It’ll help with your sales and teach you about online marketing but most importantly, you are the CEO of your own business – the business of you.

And any good business needs a website.

I hate to say it, but if you don’t separate yourself from others in the industry now, you might not have a job in 10 years.

My First Website:

10 years ago I didn’t know ANYTHING about websites other than how to click on them.

I was an insurance claim adjuster living in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I noticed people were buying tumbleweeds on eBay for around $20 and since they were free in Albuquerque I saw an opportunity.

So I created a website.

I didn’t get rich or become a world-famous tumbleweed evangelist.

But I connected with people across the world, shipped tumbleweeds to 4 continents, and covered my electricity and cable bill every month. More importantly, I fell in love with online marketing and my life has been forever changed because of it.

And it only happened because I pulled the trigger.
