About John Carroll

​Hi, I’m John Carroll.

I’m the founder of InsuranceSplash and the author of this blog. Like most insurance folks, I didn’t grow up wanting to sell insurance, I didn’t study it in college and I never imagined that I’d work in the insurance industry until it was way too late.

I got into this business like most of you – I needed a job.

My first insurance job was as a casualty claim negotiator in Albuquerque. While settling claims, I also started my first online company selling authentic New Mexican tumbleweeds.  I didn’t get rich, but with Google Adwords and a DIY website I was able to cover the rent and I was hooked on internet marketing.

For several years I lived two lives.  During the day I was an insurance professional – working for national carriers as a technology trainer, sales educator, and agency marketing consultant; at night I created revenue-generating websites.  I still own over 60 different sites that generate enough passive income to cover a lot more than just the rent.

In my years of working with insurance agents, I have identified three trends that scare the hell out of me:

1. More people use the internet to buy (or at least research) insurance every day.
2. Agents who don’t understand online marketing are at a severe disadvantage.
3. Most marketing products, services, and information for agents are scams or ineffective.

​I write this blog to demystify online marketing and sales for insurance agents. If insurance agents can’t keep up with marketing trends there won’t be insurance agents any more. Of this I’m sure. I want to help agents survive and flourish, and if you’ve read this far I imagine you do too.
